INTERIM PRINCIPAL APPOINTED < Back to Homepage
Lowestoft Sixth Form College Welcomes our Interim Principal, Andrew Thomson.
A very warm welcome to Andrew Thomson who joins Lowestoft Sixth Form College on April 19th as our Interim Principal. Andrew’s appointment has been made ahead of recruiting a Permanent Principal, who, we hope, will be in post by the Autumn of 2010, a full academic year ahead of the College opening its doors in September 2011. By recruiting an interim postholder it means that the College can begin to progress a whole range of initiatives and relationships in preparation for our opening in just over 17 months time.
Andrew has a wealth of experience in the sixth form college world having been Principal of East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston from 1994 -1998, as well as Principal of Long Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge from 1998-2004. From here Andrew became Acting Principal of Daventry Tertiary College and has been Chief Executive Officer of the Learning and Skills Development Agency in addition to The Quality Improvement Agency until 2008. More recently Andrew has been an independent management consultant working with a range of organisations including Crossrail and the Northern Ireland Further Education service.
Andrew looks forward to his new role and in particular in meeting and working with young people, their families and teaching staff at the earliest opportunity.
“Lowestoft is about to have the newest sixth form college in the country. It’s a pleasure to be involved from the outset and to help ensure that it becomes one of the best, offering outstanding opportunities for the young people of Lowestoft.”
Announcing the appointment of Andrew, David Bye, Chairman of Lowestoft Sixth Form College, said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew to the College and believe that he is the right person to take us forward to the next stage of our development.”
